The writing style is very easy to read. Short paragraphs, snappy dialogue, and minimal purple prose mean I can fly through chapters without getting bored. Perfect for a light binge read.
The pace is breakneck. In just a few pages we've had: scam call, fight, meeting with fiancée, contract broken, money obtained, robbery, police, and rental. There's no filler. It's like the author wants to pack as many tropes as possible quickly. This makes it easy to binge, but sometimes things feel rushed. The emotional beats don't have time to sink in.
The worldbuilding is what really caught my attention. The idea of a pawnshop that deals in artifacts, spirits, and even lifespan is such a unique concept. The rules about only being open at the yin-yang boundary, the contracts, the golden abacus for pricing—it all feels thought out and intriguing. I’m curious about the bigger system behind it. Are there other shops like this? Is there some kind of underworld marketplace? I hope the author expands on this later.
