2 I want to talk about the line, "As expected, at a construction site, safety must come first." This is Eguchi’s core belief. He spent his whole career enforcing this, and then he lost his footing (or rather, Saito did) and fell into a fantasy world. The irony is that he fell because he tried to save someone from the consequences of unsafe behavior (stepping on formwork). The story is punishing him for his virtue, but also rewarding him with survival via his harness. It’s a twisted karma that sets up a good survival story.
Kunlun Fairy’s desperation is so real. She went from being a Holy Land leader to begging a random giant to let her be his servant. “哪怕是在前辈身边做个奴仆也行”. You can feel the terror in her voice when she realizes the alternative is to become another pile of bones under that tree.
The 'Dark Eyes' passive is a clever narrative device. It lets the protagonist see through the corruption without being affected, which means he can observe the horror clearly without losing his mind. This makes him a reliable narrator, which is important for a story like this.
