The skill upgrade costs doubling each level feels standard, but I’m worried about mid-game inflation. If he needs 100 points for a LV6 skill, grinding will be a bore. I hope the system gives more ways to earn points, not just check-ins.
The pacing of the first few chapters is interesting: it goes from high tension (the betrayal and the cliff) to slow burn (the village life). Some readers might feel the shift is abrupt, but I think it works because it gives us a breather and sets up the main relationship.
The grammar in some sentences is a little clunky (“Meng Tingyue’s eyes tightened” / “Her breath was unsteady, as if she had run over”). But it’s still readable. Since the story is heavily translated, I can forgive it. The essence of the plot and character dynamics come through clearly. If the writing were more polished, it would be a top-tier historical romance.
