One thing that bugs me is that her dream foresight might make her too perfect. She knows everyone's moves in advance. It takes away some of the organic conflict. But for now, it's balanced by the fact that she's still underpowered in terms of resources
The action sequence where Shadow Control automatically adapts to catch all the bugs without needing specific commands is a nice touch. It shows that the power has some intelligence or instinct, which makes it more interesting than just a simple tool. It also saves the protagonist in a moment of panic.
Maclaine stripping down to nothing after Eld’s sword did its thing was hilarious. I did not expect that level of humiliation but it fits the tone. Eld could have seriously hurt him but chose to embarrass him instead. That’s a power move.
The secondary character of Liwa is a bit flat so far: the golden boy who sacrificed his brother for his own advancement. He's just a typical high-status male without future growth. But I'm curious about his mother. The tribal leader's wife is mentioned briefly. She's probably the real power behind. The scene where Zhi Le says "My Mother should agree" implies she's a decision-maker. I'm hoping she becomes a complex matriarch figure, maybe someone who sees potential in Si Shuo and becomes an ally against Yu Jiao's manipulation. That could bring interesting political dynamics to the tribe. The domestic dramas of a polygamous household in Beast World are something I'd like to see explored.
Let's talk about the humor in this novel. It's not slapstick; it's more situational and character-based. Like Shen Zhiyin saying: 'You will get deformed buttocks if you sit still'—that's such an absurd threat coming from a baby. Or Shen Muyan's internal monologue about not wanting to get caught by the police putting a toddler on a motorcycle. The dialogue is snappy and never feels forced. The comedy arises naturally from the premise: a baby who is also a grandaunt.
The police procedural logic is a bit loose. An SWAT team for a tip from a random girl? And then the cops just roll with the yellow talisman? You kind of have to suspend your disbelief on the realism of the police work, but for a xuanhuan setting, it's easy to forgive for the sake of the plot.
