"You scoundrels, release the Eldest Miss!" Han Bao's entrance gave me chills. The timing is perfect. The Princess is about to leave, and the cavalry literally arrives. The moment the bloodstained clothes roll out of the bundle, it solidifies his stand. He doesn't need proof. He *knows* his general.
I like how the author shows Yuan Ziyou’s subtle changes in behavior without making it obvious. She’s suddenly more docile towards her grandmother, saying “I’ve worried Grandmother” and following her words. But you can feel the coldness in her eyes. That’s a huge contrast from the girl who was into martial arts and just fell in the water. People around her might notice but won’t suspect magic. That slow reveal of her true intentions through internal monologue is well done.
The Madman character from her past life is such an intriguing plot device. Making him a genius hacker who shared all his secrets with her before dying? That’s a smart way to give the protagonist skills without it feeling like an ass-pull. I hope we get more flashbacks of their weird friendship.
I'm a little skeptical about the emperor being completely devoted to the empress. In a historical setting, a young ruler would likely still have other consorts. But the story chooses a romantic path which is fine as long as it sticks. It doesn't ruin the story for me.
Her frustration with moving slowly and the grass scratching her feels real. The emotional highs and lows in the exploration are well-written.
