I really liked the opening lore about dragons, giants, magical beasts, and humans. It gave me a sense of a long, tragic history without info-dumping too much. But I’m a bit confused about why humans are suddenly getting attacked by Aberrations and why it’s called “Hour of Ruin.” Seems like the author is holding back on the big reveal, which is fine, but I hope the pacing picks up soon.
I appreciate that even the “pauper edition” of the Crimson Expedition instance still looks gorgeous. The descriptions of pure white snow, golden mountain light, and the crunch underfoot paint a vivid picture. The visual contrast between the beautiful scenery and the ugly struggle makes everything more poignant. The game makes sure you notice the beauty but can’t enjoy it without earning it. The art direction matches the theme flawlessly—nature is indifferent, gorgeous, and deadly all at once.
The detail about the blue cloth covering the female corpse falling to the ground when her eyes opened is a small touch, but it shows the author pays attention to the little things. You can just imagine that pale face being revealed in the dim light of the mortuary. It's a classic horror trope, but executed well. Same with the eyes being described as cloudy glass beads with death aura in them. It's just vivid enough to give you a clear mental image without going overboard. I also caught the part where the protagonist says "I don't know fear" but then immediately says "just making eye contact with those eyes would scare my soul away." There's a slight contradiction there, or maybe he means he doesn't have the emotion, but he can intellectually understand the danger? It adds a little nuance to his character. He knows he should be scared, even if the feeling doesn't register. That's an interesting headspace.
I love the skill “Turn Waste into Treasure.” Upgrading that broken bone club? Genius. The idea of using normal wear and tear versus intentional damage is a fun mechanic. It makes you think carefully about what you use. I’m already imagining her turning zombie parts into gear. The 30-minute cooldown limits her, but twice a day feels balanced. Can’t wait to see what else she crafts.
