I love how the prison isn’t really a prison — it’s more like a luxurious villa with a blue light barrier. The cells have two floors, hot springs, butler robots, and the inmates are called “esteemed ones.” That subverts expectations nicely. It’s not about punishment; it’s about containment and care for powerful individuals on the verge of death. That premise gives the setting a melancholic, almost hospice-like atmosphere that’s unique for a prison story.
The transition from high school setting to the trial grounds felt well-paced. We got enough time to establish the social dynamics and character motivations at the school, then immediately moved into the action. The trial introduction with the heavenly voice explaining rules felt suitably epic. The description of the environment with "incredibly dense jungle on one side" and "vast plain on the other" gives a clear visual of the strategic options available.
The scene where the mother dragon says "There's a cave on the mountain to the North; everything inside will be yours" felt cryptic and ominous. And then she gets injured soon after. That's good setup. I'm guessing she knows her death is near and wants to give him a legacy. Combined with the gold mountain, it suggests she has more secrets. Looking forward to uncovering them.
