Either way, the opening is memorable. I’ll be thinking about this for a while.
The description of Gu Jia Ning as "stunningly beautiful" even when drenched and disheveled is a bit of a trope. But it's told through the matchmaker's eyes, so it's subjective. It serves a purpose: it justifies Sheng Ze Xi's infatuation and why other men are attracted. It's a plot point as much as a character note. It's acceptable in this genre.
The cliffhanger at the end of the provided text is strong. Xiao Nai is dreaming of saying “I dare” and kissing her. It’s clear he’s about to give in. I’m eager to see how he breaks. Will he pursue her actively? Will Bei Weiwei find out soon? The tension is built well, and I want to binge-read the next chapters immediately.
The interaction between the three characters is so well balanced. Xing Shi is the chaotic agent of change, Fu Xiuning is the cynical and controlling force, and the system is the overwhelmed and bumbling middleman. Their dynamic is immediately engaging and full of potential for hilarious and tense conflicts. It’s a strong character cocktail.
2 I’d love to see more internal conflict from Zhou Sui. Right now he’s just following orders like a loyal hound. But the man’s family was slaughtered and he’s being bossed around by a 13-year-old princess. Is he bitter? Resentful? Hopeful? Give me some layers. A gruff exterior is fine but I want cracks that show vulnerability.
2 The suicide note feels fake. "You bastards left without telling me" sounds angry, not suicidal. Plus, why would a suicidal person write a calm last entry? Either the notebook was tampered with, or someone else wrote that final line.
I'm really curious about the world-building here. The "Great Interstellar Fusion" and "Star Alliance" and all these different races – blue skin, green scales, Hua-skinned – are thrown at us without much explanation, but it works because we're seeing it through Su Ninglong's perspective. She's new to this world too, so we learn as she learns. The bar setting in the beginning felt lived-in, like there's a whole backstory there that we're only glimpsing. I want to know more about Zou Shuyi's past and why she's running a bar in this sci-fi setting. The hints are tantalizing without being frustrating.
the "mechanical god cult" terrorists showing up felt a bit too convenient. they happen to attack exactly when the school is doing its mecha awakening ceremony where all the top talents are gathered? feels like a set-up. i suspect there's more to kui lang and demon orb than just random cultists. maybe they were specifically targeting zhou chuyi or gu le. the story hint that they're after the S and SS types supports that idea
