The “one in ten thousand” chance of surviving a crystal core eating… that’s grim. It makes every new adept feel like a miracle. But it also means most people die. I hope we see more of those failures to remind us how harsh this world is.
Lin Yi himself is an interesting protagonist—he’s pragmatic, not overly heroic. When he says “let the Elf Queen wait for me in bed,” I snorted. It’s refreshing to have a main character who acknowledges his limitations instead of rushing off blind. His caution about leveling up before leaving the swamp makes sense, and it’s a nice break from the usual “I must save the world now” trope. I appreciate a protagonist who thinks before acting.
The translation reads okay overall, but some phrases like “charlatan” are repeated too much. Also “in a fit of rage” and “gritted her teeth” appear several times. Could use some variety. But the rhythm of dialogue is natural enough.
