The story could benefit from a longer setup before the reveal. If the first few chapters were about Yu Kai’s daily life and his struggles, then the mother’s intervention would have more impact. As it is, the reveal comes too quickly, and we haven’t had time to feel his usual powerlessness. Pacing trade-offs.
2 I wish the author had given us a little more insight into Chen Xiaochuan’s pre-death personality. What was he like as a student? What made him trust Guo Yujiao so blindly? We got a few lines about him thinking he was Prince Charming, but that’s it. A flashback of their six relationship months might have made the betrayal sting more for the reader.
30. Final thought: I need more emotional stakes. Right now it’s all logistics—shopping, storing, moving. Give me a reason to care beyond her survival. A friend left behind, a goal in the past, a mystery to solve. That’s what will make me binge.
I really liked how Sheng An and Hao Jingye are going after Jiang Yu with guns. They don't play around. That whole ‘be friendly’ and then bringing a whole team with tranquilizers is my kind of humor. Sheng An's sarcasm is top notch.
The cloth boots giving him +1 Agility was cool, but I'm confused about what Agility actually does. He tests it and doesn't feel faster, but his reaction time improves. That's a bit unclear. Is it dexterity? Coordination? The system could be a little more consistent in how it explains the stats to the reader.
There’s a slight feeling of "Power Fantasy by Numbers" here. The protagonist is smart, confident, from another world, and gets a unique, overpowered sequence. The principal is the authority figure who doubts him. The rival (Zhu Xiaotong) is good, but he's better. This is a very well-trodden path. However, the execution is so slick and the inciting incident (the test) is so well-written that I don't mind the familiar tropes. The Jiangshi twist is enough to make it feel distinct. As long as the author avoids making Xu Yi a Gary Stu and introduces some genuine conflict and character flaws, this could be a top-tier entry in the sub-genre.
