The line “The person died, and the egg was lost” is so blunt and cold. I actually laughed because it sounds like a log entry, not a memory of death. It undersells the betrayal’s emotional weight, but it’s also kind of refreshingly direct.
The protagonist’s character is a bit bland so far – he’s just a hardworking, average guy trying to get by. But that’s fine as a vessel for the system and Old Song’s mentorship. His lack of distinctive personality makes him easy to project onto. I hope he develops a bit more edge as he gains power. The line “Whoever didn’t let me be this Bell Ringer was his enemy” suggests a protective streak that could lead to conflict if someone tries to take his job.
The secret letter with "Iron Palm Du E, Chu Yunfei, five thousand taels" was a killer hook. It instantly changes the story from pure survival to a rescue mission. I appreciate that Chu Qing doesn't just ignore it because he's a transmigrator; he acknowledges the potential heart demon and decides to act. That shows growth already.
The dialogue in the argument scenes feels very natural. Gu Yuncheng talks down to her, she snaps back, and Tang Weiyu uses that soft, pleading tone. It’s clear everyone has their own voice. No one sounds like a generic character reciting lines.
1 One minor thing that bugs me: the system voice is described as "neutral without emotion," which is fine, but the instant comprehension of the Nine Heavens Mysterious Lady Records feels too easy. I wish there was a small cost or struggle involved. It would make the power-up feel more earned instead of just handed to him.
The minimap system is incredibly handy, and I love how the author describes it as a 3D map that can be zoomed in and out with just thoughts. It's a small detail, but it adds so much to the immersion. The fact that unexplored areas are covered in fog, just like in a game, makes exploration feel purposeful. I caught myself thinking about what I would do first with such a tool.
Su Jiaxin's bubbly entrance versus Su Lanxin's polished speech already sets up a contrast. Su Lanxin's words were perfectly measured, too perfect. I'm betting she'll be either a complex ally or a subtle antagonist later. Looking forward to seeing how Su Ningxin handles these sisters.
