1 The secondary characters in the real-world parts are well sketched. The Junsa at the theater blocking Eguchi and Tateyama is frustratingly accurate. It shows the petty power struggles and misunderstandings between different enforcement agencies. The Inspector Yamada character seems competent, calling for help, but the ground-level cops are clueless. This feels very real-world bureaucratic headache. It makes you appreciate the fantasy world where at least the patrolmen are suspicious but willing to listen (or at least take him to the station). The contrast is pretty funny.
The power-up scene was classic xianxia deus ex machina but I kind of loved it anyway. The whole "True Dragon Sacred Body" activating in the moment of extreme grief and near-death experience is a trope I've seen a hundred times, but the execution here was satisfying enough. The golden light, the ancestor's voice, the burst out of the grave – it gave me chills. I especially liked that the birthmark actually was the dragon shape that peeled off and merged into him. That's a nice visual. And the part where he punches a tree and it explodes? That's exactly the kind of power fantasy payoff I was waiting for.
I am incredibly curious about the "Six Ding Six Jia Talisman" that he just unlocked. It says it summons a Ding Jia Divine General! That's a straight-up summoning skill! For a Tier 1 character, that is an absurdly good ability. I love that it wasn't just a tutorial skill; he unlocked it for "first time using Talisman Magic to kill a Zombie." This adds a layer of progression mystery. Are there more hidden unlock conditions? Will he get more skills for killing more zombies in specific ways? This mystery of his unique sequence is a fantastic hook to keep me reading.
Lin Feng himself is a bit of a blank slate so far. He’s a hardworking graduate who gets dumped and fired, which makes him sympathetic, but he doesn't have a very distinct personality. He gets angry and kicks Zhang Lei, but then he’s just shocked and curious about the phone. He’s reacting to the plot rather than driving it. I don't know much about his inner thoughts or his long-term goals beyond surviving this mess. I hope the character develops a stronger voice and makes some proactive choices as the story goes on, instead of just stumbling from one magical coincidence to another.
I'm really invested in seeing how Jiang Qingyue navigates her relationship with Song Yan going forward. He's clearly traumatized and prepared for the worst, while she's genuinely trying to be better than the original owner. The tension between his expectations and her actions creates compelling drama. The fact that he's also a reborn person adds a layer of complexity that she doesn't even know about yet. This could go in so many interesting directions.
