The twin-tailed girl screaming and attracting all those zombies? Classic horror movie mistake. I was yelling at my screen for her to shut up. But then Lin Chu helping her out? That was unexpected. Thought she’d be more cold-blooded. The dynamic between them feels promising—one’s a total rookie, the other’s a survival machine. Wonder if they’ll stick together or if betrayal’s coming.
The fight scene with the rogue cultivators was awesome. Wen Yao realizing he doesn't have to do the whole flashy sword dance and can just infuse spiritual energy directly? That's a nice subversion of typical cultivation tropes. And Jiang Que using a giant pine tree as a weapon is so unorthodox and fun.
2 I can't help but compare this to Chinese web novels I've read before. The orphan gang trope is common, but this one feels more grounded in the survival aspect rather than jumping straight to cultivation. The lack of instant power-ups is refreshing. Even the Cosmic Wall fragment seems more like a mystery box than a cheat code. I appreciate the slower burn approach even though a part of me wants Xiao Chen to start cultivating already.
The dialogue between Qin Bai and Shen Muyu at the coffee shop is awkward in the best way. Her giving him a dowry list with millions and a Rolls-Royce, and he just asks "Are you gilded?" – that killed me. He's clearly out of his depth but trying to play it cool. And the way he walks out with the half-eaten cake in a takeout box? Pure gold. It shows exactly where his priorities lie without saying a word.
