The constable who remains conscious when seeing the paper figures. He drops to his knees, believing them to be his ancestors, and begs for forgiveness. He is guided by the figures to the location of the corpse. Later he wakes up holding the hand of a headless body, then faints. He represents the superstitious common folk and inadvertently assists the plot.
