Foreman Hopkin is the brutish overseer at the Monsa Port docks. He is fat, angry, and quick to use violence. When Lorin accidentally drops a crate, Hopkin slaps and whips him severely. He is greedy, demanding compensation and withholding Lorin's wages. He represents the oppressive labor conditions and class hierarchy. He has no mercy for the poor children working under him. Valen intervenes and pays him off. Hopkin is a minor antagonist in Lorin's early life, highlighting the struggles of the underclass.
