Lute is the reincarnation of Horita Hata, a Japanese man killed by a bully. Reborn as an abandoned baby in another world, he retains his past memories. Despite being labeled with low magic talent (C rank), he trains his magic control and invents the board game Reversi. He sells its rights to fund his plan to use Magic Liquid Metal to craft a handgun and become strong enough to protect others and atone for his past inaction.
