A young maid working in the Asgard mansion. She is responsible for giving Crain his morning call and bringing him a glass of water each day according to family rule. She is cheerful and slightly mischievous, once scolded for snacking and playfully pushed by a packhorse while doing laundry. She interacts with the peddler Tom and other servants in a relaxed atmosphere. Marie appears in almost every timeline, performing her morning duties and sometimes witnessing Crain's confused states after he wakes from his dream-deaths. She represents the peaceful, ordinary life of the territory that Crain seeks to protect.
