Qin Ge is the male protagonist of the story. He is a freshman at Donghai University, coming from a poor family but with excellent academic performance. He has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and has limited time to live. After leaving the hospital, he passes through a small alley and buys a tattered book called "Joy of Union Manual" from a street vendor. This manual unexpectedly turns out to be a cultivation method of the Joyous Union Sect. Following an intimate encounter with Qi Yingzi, he begins to cultivate spiritual energy and discovers the manual's true value. He uses his cultivation to rapidly heal his own stab wound and to save Old Master Xia from cardiogenic shock using acupuncture and spiritual power transmission. He is characterized as kind, curious, and adaptable. He engages in a contractual relationship with Qi Yingzi and later develops an intimate bond with his counselor Lin Yao. Despite his illness, he remains proactive in seeking a cure through cultivation.
