Sha Dan is one of two small paper figures conjured by Chang Ming to aid the constables in locating the missing Yun Hua. He is quick-witted and brave, taking charge of the mission. He communicates with one of the constables, pretending to be an ancestor, and guides him toward the corpse. He interacts with Chang Ming through a red thread, reporting findings. He also engages in banter with his companion Er Gua. At dawn, he melts away with the sunrise, his task completed. He exemplifies Chang Ming's magical prowess and serves as a temporary but effective agent.
