The gate servant is a servant guarding the entrance to the Duke’s residence in the innermost courtyard. When Jiang Ruohua comes to visit the Duke, he stops her and salutes. He says “Why is Eldest Miss here? It's really unfortunate. The Duke just fell asleep, I'm afraid you won't be able to see him.” He refuses to let her pass, but after she pretends to fall, he gets flustered and tells her to keep her voice down. He works for the Third Madam’s faction, controlling access. He is stubborn and cunning, but is bypassed by Jiang Ruohua’s ruse with the broken brick. He later watches helplessly as she is brought inside after the old Duke’s command.
