The Stone Fever Girl is a child of about twelve or thirteen, with short black hair and tanned skin, who pretends to be a boy for self‑protection. She suffers from Stone Fever, a progressive disease that causes parts of the body to turn to stone; her left arm from elbow to upper arm is already petrified. Her abusive father forces her to beg in the streets by showing the stoned arm to gain sympathy. She is defiant and refuses pity, but her eyes betray fear. Minato takes her to the Healer Gatekeeper for treatment, but she runs away when her secret is exposed. She represents the many unfortunate children in this world, and her plight motivates Minato to consider seeking a Cockatrice Beak to cure her, even though she knows how dangerous that would be.
