Xiao Jinyu is the daughter of Lady Xiao, a former imperial physician in the Qi court. After her mother's mysterious death, she disguises herself as a young man using the courtesy name Changqing to avoid detection. She loses her memory after a fall and only retains the medical skills taught by her mother. She is kind-hearted and uses her medicine to cure villagers, including treating a plague and healing the ill. She travels with her loyal companion Fenghuang towards Jiankang to seek refuge with the Lanling Xiao family, following her mother's dying wish. Despite her amnesia, she occasionally experiences fragmented memories of her past, which cause her pain. She is portrayed as intelligent, resilient, and compassionate, handling dangerous situations with poise.
