Yinzhen, initially a Beile and later Prince Yong, is the stern and taciturn fourth prince. He is deeply involved in political maneuvering, carefully following the Crown Prince while hiding his own ambitions. In his household, he had always treated his primary consort Sifu with respectful distance, favoring his secondary consort Li Shi for her tender demeanor and fertility. After his legitimate son Hong Hui falls seriously ill and Sifu begins to show a new, vulnerable beauty, he gradually wakes to his own neglect and feels remorse. He becomes increasingly attentive and protective, though his past coldness creates a rift. He is conflicted between his desires and propriety, and begins to see Sifu in a new light, feeling lust and pity.
