Zhu Xuan’s father, the village director. He is cautious and tries to smooth over conflicts. He initially wants to keep the engagement to avoid losing the benefits from the Du family, but eventually agrees to break it off because of the debt. He later becomes the village chief after the original chief retires. He is depicted as short‑sighted and greedy, caring more about money than his son’s feelings.
