Liang He, a Blue Star person recently hired as a keeper at the Tianyao Animal Protection Zone, enters the forest to investigate a roar. The zone is a Federation-established reserve for SSS-level beastmen undergoing their Evolution Period. During this time, the beastmen lose human consciousness and devolve into fierce beasts, becoming hostile and dangerous, rejecting all human contact. Liang He discovers an Ink Gold King Tiger, Cedric, who is actually an SSS-level Federal Marshal and beastman in transformation. Cedric has just killed a ferocious beast and is wounded. Instead of fleeing, Liang He approaches him, roars back at his warning growls, and successfully calms him. She bandages his wounds while he becomes docile, even allowing her to pet and touch him. This astonishes the control room staff and District Chief Huo An, who have never seen a devolved beastman accept a human. They realize Liang He is the only exception; previous Blue Star keepers failed to approach transformed beastmen.Liang He treats Cedric as an ordinary tiger, not knowing his true identity. She feeds him raw meat, which he eats willingly—another unprecedented event. Cedric follows her everywhere, and she takes him to Service Area Seven for proper medical examination. Veterinarian Xu Yi attempts to examine Cedric, but the tiger attacks him, only stopping when Liang He intervenes. She calms Cedric by hugging him and speaking gently. She manages to get Cedric onto a treatment scanner, revealing numerous old injuries in addition to his fresh wounds. Xu Yi explains Cedric refuses treatment and has accumulated old wounds. Liang He decides to stay with Cedric to assist in his care, using her unique bond to help him accept treatment. She requests supplies and a bed so she can sleep in the treatment room. The next day, Huo An personally delivers supplies and assembles a bed. Liang He, craving proper food, cooks lamb skewers over a charcoal fire. The aroma draws Huo An, who tastes one and is amazed. Liang He then prepares to roast a lamb leg and make lamb soup, using the brought seasonings. She directs Huo An to help with the meat and fire while she marinates the leg and starts simmering soup. The story follows Liang He's growing bond with Cedric and her determination to help him through his evolution period, while everyone else watches in disbelief at her unique ability to connect with him. The narrative focuses on the developing trust between human and beast, the challenges of treating a devolved beastman, and the beginning of Liang He's mission to care for Cedric.

Overall the reading experience has been incredibly smooth. The prose flows easily and the chapters feel bite-sized enough that I could binge them without fatigue. The balance between character moments and plot progression is just right for this type of story. It’s not trying to be deep literature but it doesn’t need to be because it excels at what it sets out to do entertain and warm the heart.

The ending of the provided portion where Cedric disappears and Liang He ties her hair back and goes after him leaves such a good hook. It makes me want to know if he returns on his own or if she has to track him down. The confidence in her step says she knows she’ll find him. That quiet assertiveness makes me admire her even more as a character.

I do feel like the story relies a bit too much on coincidences or convenient traits. Liang He just happens to be good with animals and just happens to be immune to his aggression? It feels a little too easy. But I’m willing to overlook it because the execution is charming enough to carry the plot. Not every story needs gritty realism sometimes you just want the fluff.

The transition from Liang He being a new keeper who doesn’t know Cedric’s identity to her becoming his primary caretaker feels smooth and organic. There’s no forced realization about who he is. She treats him the same before and after learning his name. This consistency in her characterization makes her trustworthy as a protagonist and makes her bond with Cedric feel genuine.

The love for fluffy things theme is so relatable. Seeing Liang He literally bury herself in Cedric’s belly fur and kiss his forehead makes me smile because I would absolutely do the same thing if I met a giant friendly tiger. The author knows exactly how to appeal to people who adore animals and soft things. That emotional pull is a major reason I’m enjoying this.

I wish we had gotten more scenes showing why Cedric reacted so strongly against Xu Yi specifically. The story mentions that Xu Yi had to sedate and restrain him before for treatment. That must have been a traumatic experience for both of them. It adds a sad backstory to Cedric’s current behavior and makes me empathize with him even when he’s being aggressive.
