Lu Xi'an transmigrated into a desolate world where human civilization had collapsed, and most people had vanished. He kept a diary from the first day, recording his struggles in an abandoned village named Wan Shi Village. He found a backpack containing a notebook and a pen, and later discovered a mechanical dog in a basement, which became his only companion. The dog's abilities included scanning, reloading, and reconnaissance, making it invaluable for survival. Lu Xi'an moved south, scavenging for food, water, and weapons. He encountered mutated wild animals and hostile survivor groups like the Wolf Gang and Dog Gang, whom he fought off using firearms found in an abandoned police station. His diary documented his daily routine: cutting firewood, hunting rats, enduring extreme weather, and growing stronger physically. On the 64th day, he reached Mo Zhou City and found functional guns and ammunition. On the 75th day, he saw other people for the first time but they tried to rob him. He continued south and on the 99th day found a villa in Nanwan City, which had intact circuits and a swimming pool. The mechanical dog connected to the power grid, allowing them light. Lu Xi'an's diary ended on the 100th day when the pen ran out of ink, but he kept the notebook for future reference.

Lu Xi'an settled in the villa, using the mechanical dog for patrols and security. One rainy night, a woman broke into the villa. She was rough-skinned but beautiful, dressed in durable clothes and carrying a green iron bucket and a pistol. She searched the lower floor cautiously. Lu Xi'an observed from the top of the stairs and announced his presence to avoid escalation. After a standoff, Lu Xi'an offered her water from the faucet, but she did not act, showing distrust. She intended to leave at dawn but was forced back by a pack of hyenas that broke through the door. These hyenas were intelligent and fearless, having been exposed to firearms. The woman fought bravely, killing several hyenas, but they outnumbered her. Lu Xi'an recognized the threat and called her upstairs to cooperate, as the narrow stairwell was easier to defend. He offered to reload her magazines while she shot. The woman used her pistol with deadly accuracy, while Lu Xi'an retrieved pistol bullets from the mechanical dog's bag and filled her empty magazines. Together they held the stairs, killing many hyenas until the beasts stopped rushing and surrounded the ground floor, seeking other ways to reach the second floor. Since the second floor was inaccessible to the hyenas, a stalemate ensued.

During the lull, Lu Xi'an introduced himself and asked her name, but she was hesitant. Lu Xi'an noticed the woman's jealousy of his smooth skin, which suggested she had a car or needed gasoline. He offered her a deal: if she gave him a ride, he would give her snow cream for skincare. The woman did not respond but did not deny having a car. Lu Xi'an realized she likely had a vehicle out of fuel. As the standoff continued, both suffered from hunger and dehydration. Lu Xi'an retrieved two bottles of water and two packs of instant noodles from his supplies. He gave her a bottle of water and a pack of noodles. She ate but did not drink from the bottle until Lu Xi'an took a gulp first to show it was safe. After drinking, she finally told him her name: Yao Wei. The hyenas remained downstairs, and the two now had a tentative alliance, with Lu Xi'an's survival skills and the mechanical dog's support complementing Yao Wei's excellent marksmanship and experience. The story follows Lu Xi'an's journey from a lone survivor to finding a potential partner in this harsh world, with the immediate goal of repelling the hyenas and the longer-term aim of working together to secure resources and transportation.
