Eld Faniaal, the former lord of the Faniaal family, is forced to resign by his sister-in-law Sandrea and her husband Rufus, who produce a royal decree declaring him unfit. Despite his protests, Eld signs the resignation and consent documents, and is given three days to leave the estate. Born with heterochromatic eyes—one green, one blue—Eld is a rare individual with high magical aptitude and has been titled "Ice Flame" for his magic sword Tempera, which controls both ice and fire. His biological mother died when he was six; his father remarried a kind stepmother who treated him as her own, but her daughter Sandrea grew jealous. After his father and stepmother died in an accident three years prior, Eld became lord and managed the territory, but now he is driven out by what he believes was Rufus's instigation.

With only one trunk, Eld leaves early in the morning to avoid a painful farewell with his half-siblings Millenia and Jaylot. He charges Jaylot with protecting the family if needed and heads northeast to his mother's family territory, ruled by his uncle. There, he meets his cousin Derry Linus, who takes him to the Branch Guild to re-register as an adventurer. At the guild tavern, Eld is confronted by some local adventurers, and he easily subdues them. The commotion attracts the attention of a large man named Maclaine, who challenges Eld to a duel after learning he is the famed "Ice Flame."

In the training ground, Eld draws his magic sword Tempera from a subspace rift. Maclaine attacks with magic, but Eld cuts through the spells, freezing flames and melting ice. He defeats Maclaine by stripping him of his clothes and hair without causing serious injury. The Branch Master Yorane then re-registers Eld as an E-rank adventurer, as his records have not been updated in three years. Derry offers to show Eld a place to stay, and they leave together.

Eld's goal is to restart his adventurer career in this new territory, though he remains worried about his half-siblings and the true intentions behind his ouster. The story sets up his growth from a fallen lord to a title-wielding adventurer, with the underlying conflict involving Sandrea and Rufus's betrayal and his desire to protect his family from afar.

Overall this has the feel of a solid fantasy adventure setup. The protagonist is interesting, the world has clear rules, and the conflict is personal enough to drive the story forward. I’m invested in seeing where Eld ends up next.

I wish the first chapter was a bit longer. Just when I was getting into the family drama and the new town setting, it moved on to the next scene. I would have liked more time to absorb everything before moving forward.

The story does a good job balancing action and character moments. The fight scenes are quick but impactful, while the quieter scenes like the farewell with the half-siblings land emotionally. Keeps me turning pages.

Eld’s calm demeanor throughout the whole situation is intriguing. He doesn’t rage or swear revenge on Sandrea and Rufus. He just accepts his fate and moves on. That’s either extreme patience or he’s waiting for the right moment to strike back.

Maclaine being a fanboy of “Ice Flame” was unexpected. The way he immediately challenged Eld despite his underlings just getting beaten is so in character for a fantasy world. Pride before a fall, literally.

The combat space with magical barriers that prevent outside interference is a smart mechanic. It allows for no-holds-barred fights without collateral damage. I can see that being used for big showdowns later.
