Ye Yan was once the chief of the underworld Assassin Association, a killing machine devoid of all emotion except absolute obedience to his "Mother." She ordered him to assassinate countless targets, and he executed every mission without question. Yet in the end, she betrayed him, leaving him bleeding out in a pool of blood. Before he lost consciousness, she whispered, "When you open your eyes again, the first thing you'll see is Mother." He believed he would wake again in her arms.He opened his eyes in the birthing chamber of a Goblin Nest, transformed into a newborn goblin cub with green skin, long ears, and fangs. The first creature he saw was a beautiful elf with silver-white hair and ruby eyes, who had just given birth to him. The sense of bloodline closeness convinced him she was his mother. As he struggled to understand his new form, several other goblin cubs born alongside him lunged at the elf with malicious intent. Driven by instinct and rage, Ye Yan crushed them with rocks, killing one after another. The Voice of the World announced his sin of slaying his own kind but granted him the skill "Gluttony," which allowed him to gain permanent attributes from each kill. He killed ten cubs, acquiring points in Strength, Speed, and Constitution, and eventually the skill evolved into the exclusive skill "Predation," absorbing "Gluttony" and granting him the ability to take skills from his victims. After slaying the penultimate cub, he obtained "Shadow Stealth."The elf mother, initially terrified of the hideous child she bore, witnessed his ruthless protection of her. When a surviving cub tried to ambush Ye Yan from a shadow, the elf cried out a warning, but Ye Yan had already detected the killing intent and crushed its head. The last cub cowered in fear. Before Ye Yan could finish it, two adult goblins and a goblin shaman burst into the room, horrified by the slaughter. The shaman used vine magic to bind Ye Yan mid-strike. An adult goblin, enraged by the loss of its eye from Ye Yan's thrown rock, tried to kill him with a club. The elf mother threw herself over Ye Yan, embracing him. The club halted inches above her head when the shaman called out that the Goblin General had been summoned. The adult goblin dared not act further but vowed to defile the elf in front of Ye Yan. Enraged, Ye Yan broke free from the vines, dislocated the adult goblin's arm, and provoked another confrontation. The Goblin General arrived, a massive armored warrior who immediately sensed something extraordinary about the newborn cub. After listening to the shaman's account, the General dismissed the adults' complaints, noting that a cub not yet able to speak could not be judged properly. He ordered that Ye Yan be allowed to grow until he could speak, deciding that matters would be settled later. The two adult goblins seethed with hatred but could not disobey. Ye Yan stood protectively before his mother, his mind already calculating the possibility of killing the General, but a splitting headache and weakness in his newborn body forced him to yield for now. The elf mother, still trembling, clung to him in the corner of the foul chamber, her fear of goblins warring with her gratitude toward the strange child who had saved her. Ye Yan, holding onto the only warmth he had ever known, prepared to survive and grow stronger in this nest of monsters, determined to protect his mother at any cost.

The elf’s helplessness in the beginning is almost claustrophobic. She’s bound by magic, exhausted, and surrounded by monsters. Her cry for help pulled at my heartstrings. Ye Yan’s response, driven by his programming from his past life, feels automatic but also carries a hint of real emotion. The confusion in his mind when she shields him is one of the most human moments in the story so far.

Overall, this is a solid start to a dark fantasy isekai. The reincarnation into a goblin trope is done with a fresh twist—focusing on the relationship with a reluctant mother and using a skill-stealing mechanic. The pacing is fast, the action is brutal, and the emotional core is surprisingly strong. I’m invested in seeing where Ye Yan’s hunger and his mother’s fear lead. Definitely want to keep reading.

One potential weakness is that the story is very linear so far. It’s mostly action and reaction from Ye Yan’s perspective. There’s no subplot or secondary character PoV yet. That might make it feel a bit narrow after a while. But for an opening chapter, it works. The intensity carries it.

The goblin general’s reaction to seeing something in Ye Yan’s eyes was a great cliffhanger moment. It suggests there’s more to Ye Yan’s soul or inherent traits that the general can sense. That mystery makes you want to read on. Plus, the general’s calm authority contrasts with the rowdy adults. Gives a sense of order in chaos.

I’m curious about the other captive women. They’re given lines, but only briefly. Maybe later we’ll learn more about them or their own stories. The world has many potential side characters. For now, they serve as a haunting backdrop. Their silent suffering is powerful. Hope they get more depth later.

The "Voice of the World" system feels like a game interface, but it doesn’t break immersion. It’s used sparingly enough. The achievements like "Impossible" for killing so many kin is a nice touch. It adds a layer of narrative reward alongside the mechanical one. Makes you feel like Ye Yan is special, breaking the system.
