Song Chuman, a medical student from 2060, is reborn as a six-year-old girl in Qingyu Village after the original owner is sacrificed to the Sea God Madam by her grandmother Li Cuicui. The original owner was sent to sea on a small boat but washes back ashore, soaked and near death, and is brought back to the Song family courtyard. When Song Chuman regains consciousness, Li Cuicui refuses to call a physician, declaring her a burden rejected by the Sea God Madam and ordering her to be thrown into the mountains. Song Chuman’s mother Sheng Shuwan and twin brother Song Chuhuai desperately plead for her life, but Li Cuicui is unmoved. Just as Li Cuicui prepares to discard her, Song Chuman receives a system with a beginner’s gift pack that grants her the ability to modify one word in the upcoming plot. She uses this golden finger to change a line describing her second uncle Song Hemao chopping firewood, altering the word ‘firewood’ to ‘mother,’ which causes Song Hemao to uncontrollably attack Li Cuicui with the knife, severely wounding her shoulder.

The family is thrown into chaos as Li Cuicui screams in pain, and Song Chuman faints from exhaustion, giving her family time to tend to her. She sleeps until the next afternoon and wakes up weak but begins to understand her new abilities. The system explains that as it upgrades, she can modify two words, three words, or even sentences and paragraphs, along with gaining psychic powers and a space. Song Chuman is overjoyed and reads the instruction manual, becoming excited about the potential. Her father Song Hexiu, who was tricked into leaving the village by his father Song Xiangqian under the pretense of a job, returns and confronts the family about the sacrifice. He is furious that his daughter was nearly killed and questions his brothers Song Hemao and Song Hewei about their role in the incident. In the confrontation, Song Hemao accidentally hints that Song Hexiu might not be the biological son of Li Cuicui and Song Xiangqian, but Li Cuicui quickly silences him.

Song Hexiu demands justice and decides to divide the family. Li Cuicui initially refuses to give him any property, accusing him of ingratitude, but Song Hexiu threatens to stay and take food from them, forcing her to negotiate. After discussions with her husband and sons, Li Cuicui agrees to the division but offers only 200 copper coins from the supposed family savings of one tael, claiming most was spent on her medical treatment. Song Hexiu insists on 800 copper coins and all 50 catties of inferior rice purchased days earlier. Li Cuicui reluctantly agrees, and the family separates.

Song Hexiu, Sheng Shuwan, Song Chuman, and Song Chuhuai leave the grandparents’ household, hoping for a better future despite starting with minimal resources. Song Chuman is relieved to be away from the toxic family and looks forward to using her system to improve their circumstances. The incident marks her first successful use of the golden finger, setting the stage for her growth and the family’s independence. While the immediate conflict is resolved, the enmity with her grandparents and uncles remains, as Li Cuicui still considers Song Chuman a liability. Song Chuman’s ultimate goal is to protect her family from future harm and secure a safe life in the fishing village, using her medical knowledge from her past life and the system’s power to overcome the challenges of poverty, superstition, and family hostility. The story ends with the family starting anew, facing an uncertain but hopeful future.

I just want to say I love that the system is called "Modify" and the instruction manual exists. It makes the fantasy element feel grounded. And the fact that she has to level up for better mods gives a clear goal. I can't wait to see how she uses her new family freedom.

Reading this left me feeling angry at the injustice but hopeful because the MC has tools. That emotional roller coaster is what makes a good page-turner. I honestly would recommend this to anyone who likes transmigration or family drama with a revenge streak.

The writing style is straightforward and not overly flowery, which suits the fast-paced plot. Some phrases like "burden" or "broomstick star" give cultural flavor. The translation reads pretty smoothly, though a few sentences feel slightly awkward.

I enjoyed the small humor in the middle of dark moments, like when Song Hemao suddenly cuts his mother and everyone is stunned. The irony of the grandmother getting hurt by her favorite son is delicious. It's a bit of poetic justice.

The title "Sacrifice to the Sea God" fits the main conflict, but now that the family is splitting, I wonder if the sea god will come back into play. Maybe there'll be a real monster or supernatural element besides the system. I'm curious.

One weakness so far: the side characters like the two aunts and the uncles are pretty one-dimensional – just followers of the grandmother. I hope they get more personality later. The third uncle especially just stands around.
