Li Cuicui is the cunning and selfish grandmother of the Song family. She is the one who pushes Song Chuman into the sea as a sacrifice to the Sea God Madam in exchange for five taels of silver, considering the child a burden. After Chuman miraculously returns, Cuicui refuses to call a doctor, instead wanting to throw her into the mountains or sell her as a maid to a wealthy family. She is hot-tempered, often screaming at her children and grandchildren, and she manipulates her husband and sons to do her bidding. When her second son accidentally cuts her with an axe (due to Song Chuman's plot modification), she demands medical fees and still tries to expel the first branch. She hoards food and money, even hiding the family's savings from her eldest son. Her greed and cruelty drive the conflict, as she prioritizes her younger sons and her own comfort over her eldest son's family. She is eventually forced to agree to a family division after Song Hexiu threatens to stay and consume all their resources.
