I find the lack of a clear antagonist in the current timeline a little worrying. The bully is dead, the demon lords are sealed. The conflict is purely internal and systemic right now. I hope a proper villain shows up soon.
The way Yang Jun interacts with neighbors like Yan Bugui shows his EQ. He doesn’t snap back, he just smiles and moves. That survival instinct to not burn bridges in a tight community is smart.
1 The idea of the copper coin speaking human language and predicting the future reminds me of some stories I’ve read about cursed objects. It’s a classic trope, but the execution here feels fresh because of the pawnshop framing. The coin is both a blessing and a curse. It gave the family wealth, but it also tore them apart. I’m excited to see what Chang Ming discovers when she investigates it. I bet it has a hidden agenda.
I appreciate that Madam Dongyang isn't a villain. She's disappointed and picks up on the oddness of the situation, but she decides to accept her son's decision. She even mentions earlier that she never pressured him to remarry. That shows a supportive mother. The drama won't come from her being a wicked mother-in-law, which is refreshing.
The White-Clad Youth is an intriguing side character. His description is very feminine—smooth white hair, bewitching appearance, charming smile. The way he floats over and grabs the protagonist is both elegant and ominous. I sense he's going to be either a powerful ally or a dangerous enemy. Either way, I'm interested in learning more about him.
The concept of a mother returning to find her children grown up is not new, but the execution here feels fresh because of the cultivatior vs modern world contrast. Gu Qingyin is not just any mother—she’s a Celestial Master who fights ghosts. That gives her a unique toolkit to navigate this new reality. The time-skip also creates immediate friction with the son, who is now an adult with his own authority. Their relationship isn’t automatically warm; it has to be earned through scenes like the beating and the barbecue.
