I have to applaud the author for a strong hook. This "NPC system" premise isn't entirely new, but the execution here is top-notch. The rules are interesting, the stakes are life-or-death, the protagonist is charismatic, and the plot is already driving forward with clever puzzles and shocking twists. I'm completely invested.
I'm genuinely enjoying this novel much more than I initially anticipated! At first, I wasn't particularly fond of the blurb or the opening chapters, but after just a few pages, I found myself completely hooked. Here are a few aspects I absolutely love about this story: - **Quick Revelations:** One of the refreshing elements is how swiftly the characters come to terms with the fact that she isn’t their original wife. Unlike many stories that drag out such revelations, the protagonist admits her identity rather early on, which adds an element of honesty and transparency to the narrative. - **Complex Characterization of the MC:** While our main character may be physically weak, her mental fortitude shines through. At the beginning, she does shed quite a few tears, but it quickly becomes evident that she doesn’t rely on her husbands for emotional support as heavily as one might expect. They serve more as a kind of supportive backdrop, enhancing her abilities rather than overshadowing her independence. - **Appreciation for Female Friendship:** The depiction of female camaraderie in this story is another highlight. It’s refreshing to see strong, supportive relationships among women that add depth to the narrative and showcase different dynamics in friendships. - **Adorable Character Interactions:** The characters are utterly charming! Some of her husbands develop feelings for her quite early in the story, leading to some adorably jealous and childish antics that surely bring a smile to readers’ faces. - **Intriguing Subplots:** There’s a larger conspiracy woven into the backdrop of the main narrative centered around a zombie apocalypse, which I find incredibly exciting. I'm eager to see how this bigger plot unfolds and ties into the characters' personal journeys. - **Body Positivity Theme:** While the story follows a typical "fat to fit" arc, the underlying message is that the protagonist's weight was never the sole barrier to her attractiveness. As of Chapter 103, she still retains her chubby figure, which is praised rather than vilified. It’s wonderfully explained that her healing abilities are purging her body of toxins, leading to healthier skin and fantastic beauty—no wonder some characters are filled with envy! As for the male leads so far, they each bring a unique dynamic to the story, adding layers to the relationships and enhancing the overall storyline. I can’t wait to see how their interactions evolve as the plot progresses. Overall, this novel has exceeded my expectations, and I am entirely invested in the characters and the unfolding plot!
The detail about one-year rent for a lawyer interview I recall is about X's consulting fee. It’s a nice touch that Lin runs his own practice and bills by the hour. Some authors forget that lawyers are business owners too. The fact that he charges a high rate shows his value and gives him leverage against someone like Xie who might try to intimidate him with money. Equal playing field since Xie can't just buy him off cheaply.
Tang Ming is an interesting character for a skeleton. He's got this dry, no-nonsense attitude. The line "there is no emotion between skeletons" really sets the tone for this world. But then he still explains things to Yun Ming and even compliments him on being smart. It's like he's cold but appreciates competence. That soul link thing is creepy though, like a leash of death.
I’m curious about the “emotion points” system since the MC didn’t start collecting yet. It says he needs to be in the courtyard to activate. That means the real mechanics will start now. I hope it’s not just a store where he buys random stuff. If it requires conflict to gain points, that would tie perfectly into the courtyard drama. That’s a cool design if done well.
The deaf old lady faking a faint when accused was too funny. The way she pinched her grandson and whispered was supposed to be secret but he blurted it out loud. That kind of comic relief worked for me. It shows these villains aren’t that smart. The MC calling her out without evidence was a risky move but it worked because the stress made her crack. Realistically, though, if I were the police, I’d need more proof.
The translation quality leaves much to be desired. Throughout the reading experience, I found myself consistently confused about who was performing certain actions or, at times, even who was speaking due to a frequent mishandling of pronouns. This issue often occurs when pronouns are either incorrectly referenced or omitted entirely, forcing the reader to make educated guesses based on context. While it's sometimes possible to piece the narrative together, this ambiguity disrupts the flow of the story and diminishes the overall enjoyment of the reading experience. For instance, a reader might come across a dialogue scene where it's unclear whether a statement is made by the protagonist or a supporting character, leading to moments of frustration rather than engagement. It detracts from the immersive quality that many readers seek in a well-crafted tale. Having to constantly decipher these relationships pulls the reader out of the narrative, making it more of a chore than an enjoyable journey. If you’re considering diving into this work, be prepared for the possibility of frequent interruptions in comprehension. Although the plot and themes may hold great potential, the translation issues could ultimately tarnish the overall experience. A polished and coherent translation would undoubtedly elevate the reader's journey, allowing them to fully appreciate the intricate layers of the story without the constant distraction of confusion.
