The fight with the bear was short but effective. I liked that Wei Xing didn't suddenly become a warrior. He used the sword defensively and ran. That's realistic for an ordinary person. The aftermath where he's exhausted and grateful to the sword reinforces his bond with the weapon. The only minor issue is that a bear would probably be more persistent, but maybe the sword's sharpness scared it off. Acceptable for the plot.
The pacing is spot-on. The story doesn't dawdle. We get the isekai setup, the power explanation, the golden finger discovery, a brutal failure, a smart realization, another brutal failure, all within a few thousand words. There's no filler. It’s just pure, escalating conflict between the protagonist and his environment. This makes for a very engaging read. You're constantly asking "What's he going to try next?" and the author delivers a new challenge just as quickly. 1
Reading this made me reflect on how abandonment themes repeat. Duoduo was thrown away, Shi Yichen was thrown away, even the system was knocked down from vacation. It’s like the story is saying everyone here is discarded in some way. That resonance keeps me engaged.
I loved how Shen Jingyuan’s anger backfired on him. He tried to pressure her into confessing, but she twisted his words into evidence that she was being threatened. That was a classic “playing victim to expose the real villain” move. And the other cultivators catching on made it even sweeter.
Yingxiu is mysterious and seems knowledgeable about the Time Gem, but after being rescued she's quiet. We don't know much about her personality yet. Her backstory as someone from a parallel world Dacheng Kingdom is interesting, but she hasn't done much besides being a damsel and giving info. I hope she becomes more active in the future, maybe using her knowledge of the world.
