I've got to say, the whole "baby grandaunt" concept is ridiculously charming. Shen Zhiyin is adorable as heck—she's this powerful cultivator stuck in a toddler's body, still drinking milk and eating pastries, but she talks with the authority of an elder. The way she scolds Shen Muyan for walking too fast? 'My legs are so short, I can't catch up!'—that line actually made me laugh out loud. It's such a clever way to balance her ancient wisdom with her physical limitations. She's both cute and formidable, which is hard to pull off.
Ning Lang's character is frustrating. He's the eldest son but completely oblivious to the family's struggles. His solution is to buy his sister a box of rouge, but he doesn't understand that the problem is systemic. It makes you hope he has a redemption arc.
30. I am totally on board for more of this. It’s a fun, fast read that doesn't take itself too seriously. I'm hooked on the dynamic between the master and disciple, and I’m genuinely curious to see what other trouble they can get into in Ping'an Town. I really hope the next chapter gets released soon.
2 I’m a little annoyed at how easily she accepts the transmigration. “Oh, I’m in 1960. Cool.” Where’s the shock? The grief? The denial? A paragraph of internal struggle would have made her feel more human.
That scene where Qin Bai offers his seat to the old man and then gets off the bus early so he doesn't have to face the guilt trip? Peak chaotic neutral energy. He even mentally gives himself a merit star for it. It's those small details that make his character feel lived in. He's not a saint, he's just a guy doing the bare minimum for good karma.
2 Lucia’s dragon pride is intact even when she’s powerless. She says “Silver dragons never pay” and hesitates to hand over the metal. That stubbornness is key to her character. She’s not just a damsel; she’s a queen who is forced to bend, but she won’t break easily.
I'm a bit bothered by how quickly Chu Yanran gives in. Sure, she's threatened, but she went from "I'd rather die" to "I am willing to serve Young Master" in like three pages. A bit more internal struggle would have made it more believable. Still, given the genre, it's not uncommon for heroines to be bent this way.
