The emotional core of the story, for me, is the feeling of being an outsider. Shen Yuepo doesn’t belong in the silent, cold mountains anymore, but she’s also not welcomed with open arms into the opulent Shen villa. She’s in a total limbo state, and the author portrays that loneliness and isolation really well. Her calm, detached reactions to the family drama feel like a defense mechanism, and it makes me root for her even more.
After reading this excerpt, I’m most intrigued by the hints that Nannan might be a transmigrator or have some special origin. The doctor’s confusion, her three-year silence, the “Bi Yao” nonsense—it feels like a mystery that will unfold slowly. I hope the author doesn’t drop it in favor of pure power-leveling and fights.
The writing style for the action is surprisingly cinematic. The scene where the MC shoots the bug's leg off to save Yurou was timed perfectly. Tight framing. “Bang!” Pop pop pop!” Great sound effects in my head. I could picture the apartment hallway fight. The tension was palpable.
The dialogue between the MC and Su Su feels natural, especially the banter about the money sack. “If that whole sack is money, it must be several million?” “Five million!” “Ha, you're funny!” It shows she doesn't believe him but plays along. Their conversation flows easily, which makes their interactions enjoyable.
