Yeah, if you like fast-paced LitRPG apocalypses, this is it. It skips the boring parts. The system is unique. The potential for character drama is huge. It's a solid binge read so far. The author knows exactly what buttons to push for the target audience.
The writing style for the action is surprisingly cinematic. The scene where the MC shoots the bug's leg off to save Yurou was timed perfectly. Tight framing. “Bang!” Pop pop pop!” Great sound effects in my head. I could picture the apartment hallway fight. The tension was palpable.
I need to know who the main heroine is. The book is pushing Yurou hard, but the dynamic with Chen Yanyan is a classic “enemies to allies” (or enemies to lovers) setup. The MC is 24, she is 3 The “older woman” trope is so hot. The real story is relationship management in the apocalypse.
The Appraisal skill is my favorite part. Getting to read the “evaluation” flavor text of items is so satisfying. “This is a crudely made replica gun”, “Sturdy Human female” lol. The dry humor in the System's narration is a hidden gem. It breaks the tension just enough.
The base stats make sense. HP 10/1 The world isn't giving out godly powers on day one. Everyone is frail. It grounds the story in a deadly reality. If a bug bites you, you die. The stakes are real. The MC leveling up only gives +2 HP, so it's slow progression.
Chen Yanyan is definitely going to be a liability or a traitor. She is described as “a very practical person” who knows what she should do. In a horny apocalypse book, she might become the third wheel. In a serious one, she might steal the gun. I am scared for her, but in a fun way.
