The opening really threw me into the deep end with the stakes, the whole "your nation gets a weird disaster if you die" thing is brutal. It immediately makes every choice feel heavy, not just for Chi Mu but for the entire Dragon Nation. Watching him panic and scream "Why me?!" was so relatable too, if I got shunted into a horror dimension I'd be having the exact same meltdown.
“It’s just a zombie wielding swords and blades. The art style would be a bit strange.” The author is self-aware! This line made me laugh. A zombie with a katana or longbow is such a silly image, but the author acknowledges it and runs with it anyway.
I’m a bit worried that the story might rely too much on Shougo’s meta-knowledge to get him out of jams. So far it’s been handled well – he uses the fact that the anime was cancelled to justify not knowing everything, and his guesses are based on inference. But if later on he continues to just happen to know the perfect thing to say, it might feel cheap. I hope the author keeps the uncertainty going.
The opening with the fog and the mysterious island really hooked me. It sets up that classic horror vibe right away, and I love how the author doesn't rush into action but lets the atmosphere build slowly. Made me feel like I was right there on that cargo ship with Jiang Feng.
Ruan Ruan’s meltdown in the snow is literally me if I joined this game without reading the fine print. She comes in thinking it’ll be a cute photo op with a snowy backdrop and instead she’s freezing her eyelashes off while her makeup smudges due to “physiological tears.” That detail—that the game simulates real tears freezing on your face—is both brutal and impressive. Her audience went from simping for her looks to watching her suffer in real time and I bet that awkwardness made for some of the most genuine content she’s ever produced.
The office description with the smell of spicy oil noodles and athlete's foot is disgustingly relatable. That specific brand of Chinese office building suffering. No AC for forty minutes? I felt that in my soul. Property management blaming "grid overload" while the world outside literally disintegrates is such a perfect example of bureaucratic denial. The way Yu Molan just sits there staring at the spreadsheet instead of panicking feels exactly right for someone who's been overworked for years.
The moment he successfully breaks through and his spiritual sense extends to 12 li—that was hype. I actually smiled when I read that part. The way the clan elders go from despair to shock to celebration is exactly the kind of emotional payoff I was waiting for. And the fact that his foundation even surpasses some veteran Foundation Establishment cultivators? Chef’s kiss.
