The rat scene was tense. Even though she knew the rules, the description of it being larger than her and with fangs made me feel her fear.
I wasn’t expecting the cultivation world to look so colorful and extravagant. Lin Du’s reaction to seeing all the silks and jewels on the immortals felt exactly how I would react. The explanation about spiritual energy boosting productivity makes sense economically, but it’s still a bit jarring after years of expecting simple white robes. It’s a nice twist on the usual aesthetic, and I like that the author took the time to justify it.
The 'toilet bug' story is absolute gold. It is the most human moment in the entire text. It is embarrassing, specific, and perfectly authenticates Ao Tian's identity. It also completely shatters Yang Xuanshuang's cold facade, turning her back into the scared little girl who needed her little brother. It is a masterclass in using a small detail for emotional effect.
Su Ye’s initial grassland territory is a decent start, but his reaction is so down-to-earth: no celebration, just a quick calculation that it could have been swamp or desert. That pragmatism fits his eighteen years of living in this world. He’s not an idiot who suddenly becomes hypercompetent; he’s just someone with memories but no special advantages until the talent kicks in. That feels realistic despite the fantasy setting.
I'm really curious about the driver subplot. Shen Zhiyin said she sensed a karmic entanglement related to the Shen family's wealth, and if it's not handled properly, someone will suffer bloodshed. Creepy. And then the driver acts all nervous when Shen Muyan asks about his family. That's some good suspense. I have a feeling this is going to be a major plot point later, maybe involving betrayal or an attempted robbery. The setup is subtle but effective.
I am a little worried about the huge cast of side characters like the mother, the siblings, the soldiers. I hope they all get distinct personalities and don't just become background noise. So far, the small interactions with the MC differentiating herself to each of them (ignoring the brother, being polite to the mother) suggests the author has a plan for them, but I'll be keeping an eye on it.
