I wonder if Mos will meet other intelligent animals or even human awakeners eventually. The sewer feels isolated, but the Survival Game likely has dungeons or portals to other places.
The sanity system adds a psychological layer that I love, losing sanity from contamination and from viewing images of corpses makes every decision more weighty. The effects of low sanity, like hallucinations and madness, are scary realistic. It forces you to manage your mental health as well as physical. Bai Yi’s talent with sanity locking and pain is interesting, it seems he’s built for high-stress situations. I’m curious how other characters cope with sanity loss, it adds depth to the survival mechanics.
The pacing in the first few paragraphs is slow — a lot of internal monologue about gnawing and sleeping. But once the summoning happens, it picks up fast. The funeral and the coffin scene are where the story really hooks me. The slow start is forgivable because the payoff is good.
20. The brother, Qiao Sihan, is a stereotype, but I like him. He’s the protective, hot-headed big bro trope. His dialogue (“break his legs”) is funny because it’s so extreme. He adds a lot of comedic relief, even if he’s not a deep character. I hope he gets a subplot later to become more than just a guard dog for his sister.
I wasn’t a fan of the “weak and sickly” trope used for the original host. It feels a bit overdone to make the MC start from rock bottom. But the quick improvement through archery and the system makes up for it.
Can we talk about the village gossip? They’re calling her a “plague god” and whispering about how she jinxes everyone. That’s so realistic for small-town dynamics. It adds a whole layer of social tension on top of the supernatural stuff. She’s not just dealing with ghosts; she’s dealing with living jerks who want to kick her out of her own ancestral home. The pressure is real.
I love the small detail that Shen Chi didn't even remember who Lu Qingyue was at first. That "Who are you?" energy was so powerful. The way he had to take a few seconds to recall that she was the original body's crush from three years ago, before immediately being unbothered, showed such clean character establishment. It tells us this is a transmigrator who doesn't carry the original's emotional baggage. His line "what does that have to do with me?" repeated for emphasis was just perfect.
