The fire dragon Elder Yan is such a dramatic diva and I love him. "My uncle's third aunt's cousin-in-law was married to a former Dragon Palace Princess" like sir, that is a STRETCH and you know it. His whole "I am noble, you're not worthy" energy while being a rare subspecies is peak comedy.
The cat choosing Wu Xie after evaluating his "clean aura" and sincere smile is sweet, but I'm also side-eyeing the system. It feels like there's more to this mission than just being a pet.
The spiritual sea of consciousness scene with the torches and temple is surreal and beautiful. The description of the altar with bloodstains and twelve piles of bones gave me chills. And then the temple full of murmuring voices? That’s straight-up eldritch horror. I want to know what those entities are and what they want from her. The piece of beast skin as a welcome gift feels ominous.
The English translation flows okay, but some dialogues come off a bit stiff, like when Shen Lian asks about the porridge. It’s readable, but the magic of the original Chinese might be getting lost. Still, the emotional beats come through.
