The son’s question “Are you being kept?” is the most relatable moment. It comes from a place of teenage humor and concern. It’s the kind of comment a real kid might make. I wish the story had more of this authentic humor to balance the drama.
One small detail I liked: when Yun Ming absorb the living soul from the tiger white bone, Tang Ming immediately sensed it via the soul link and called him. That shows the link is two-way or at least allows monitoring. It also shows Tang Ming is paying attention to his subordinates, which is smart leadership in such a dog-eat-dog environment.
The part where Yu Duoduo discovers land in her mental sea and panics was relatable. Even with all her knowledge, a surprise like that is scary. Her running to Shi Yichen crying and clinging to his leg felt like a genuine child moment, which is rare in these novels.
The concept of “the apocalypse carnival” with the crypto coin crash is smart world-building. It ties the financial world into the doomsday scenario, making the setting feel bigger than just one city. I hope more global events are mentioned.
The gene enhancement potion is a classic cheat code addition. It instantly makes the protagonist handsome and strong, fixing his physical flaws with zero effort. On one hand, it's fun to see the protagonist level up both financially and physically. The description of him looking in the mirror and seeing muscles and angular features is satisfying wish-fulfillment. On the other hand, it feels like the author is just throwing power-ups at him without any challenge. No struggle, no training, just drink a potion and become superhuman. It works for the genre, but it reduces tension. I also wonder if there will be any downsides or if this sets a precedent for even more handouts. The C-grade potion is just the start; I'm guessing A and S grades will appear later. It's a typical gacha progression.
I had a small laugh when Chi An called Fu Jiamu's avatar tacky in his head. It's a petty thought but it felt so real. Sometimes you just don't like someone and every little thing they do annoys you. His refusal to accept the friend request is such a mood. He doesn't have to be polite to someone who's clearly trying to take his place.
I’m a bit worried all the characters are going to be so one-note. Jun Tianxiao is a crude bully, Li Qinghan is the proud beauty, Lin Fan is the arrogant hero. Mo Yunxuan is the snarky commentator. The story acknowledges these tropes, which is good, but it needs to subvert them or develop them soon. If everyone stays a caricature, the comedy will wear thin very fast. I need depth from at least a few characters to stay invested.
