The space itself is a total letdown at first though, isn't it? Half-rotten bread and garbage everywhere? I was expecting some pristine magical dimension. But honestly, that makes it feel more real. It's not a gift, it's an inheritance with baggage. Her cleaning it out and trying to use it feels earned.
I really like how this story kicks off with the rebirth twist but doesn't beat you over the head with it. Yan Luo's internal thoughts feel natural for a three-year-old who's actually lived another life, and I appreciate that the author doesn't make her overly emotional about it. She's just quietly assessing everything, which makes her way more compelling than if she were constantly throwing pity parties. The fact that Chu Yue is also reborn adds this nice layer of tension right off the bat, like both of them are playing chess but Yan Luo has way more pieces on the board.
I really appreciate that the story doesn't rush to make Hua Kong a genius or a chosen one. At thirteen, he's literate but not exceptionally so. He can make a crossbow but only after secretly watching and practicing. He can hunt but he's not the best shot — even in the group, Li Gouzi and the hunter brothers are better. He's just a normal boy with normal ambitions: earn silver, learn a trade, get married. This makes the story relaxing to read because there's no pressure of destiny or power levels. Every small achievement, like saving a few mace of silver or hitting a deer with his crossbow, feels satisfying because we know how much work it took. If the story ever introduces supernatural elements, I hope it keeps this grounded feeling.
The "no regrets even if I die" speech to Song Xingwen felt a bit rehearsed, but her reasoning - that she'd rather try and fail than never try - is relatable. It fits her thrill-seeking personality. I just hope the story doesn't make her a martyr later.
"Little War God." Please. Xu Mingzheng is a sadistic coward who breaks his sister's fingers while she is drugged and helpless. The title is hollow. I am waiting for the moment the real War God gets her hands on a spear again and reminds everyone what that title actually means.
