I have a theory that Yu Sui’s hatred of Alphas will be broken when he sees them as victims, not oppressors. The story has set up that they are all trapped in the company. Once he helps them, he might actually develop genuine care for them. And that will break his “straight” facade. That’s the character development I am hoping for.
I'm really curious about Jiang Nanyu's master, Chang Yinzi. He just disappeared one day and she's been looking for him ever since. That's a solid mystery in the background. I hope we get more clues later because the whole "missing Taoist master" thing has potential. Also, she didn't even get a metaphysics license because her master said the association was full of crooks. That kind of rebellious upbringing makes her more interesting.
The rule system for ghosts is interesting. “An Eye for an Eye” reflects damage, but also can cause bleeding if no rule is active. That flexibility makes combat unpredictable. I’m excited to see how he uses it against different enemies.
I really feel for Haohao’s mom—no, she’s awful. But I’m glad the story doesn’t give her any sympathy. The way she slanders a dying woman’s child is disgusting. The grandmother’s immediate disowning of that branch of the family felt satisfying. It makes me trust that this novel won’t tolerate toxic relatives for cheap family drama. The Helians seem to back their own.
