The dialogue in this chapter feels very natural. No one is speaking in long exposition dumps. They talk like real people. Short sentences. Interruptions. Unspoken tension. The dinner conversation especially feels authentic with all the awkward pauses and forced pleasantries. It's not easy to write tense family dinners without feeling melodramatic but this nailed it.
