The character of Sun Huowang in the dream realm is immediately intriguing. He sees through the simulation. "You're not from here, who are you?" This creates a strong mystery within the game world itself. Is he an AI, a part of Chen Yu's subconscious, or something far stranger? Great hook
The use of scent and touch in bonding is clever writing. Many stories rely on magic or pheromones, but here it’s just her kindness and her understanding of animal body language that creates the connection. That feels more real and earned. Also the way Cedric’s growls change in tone based on his mood is a nice subtle detail that adds depth to his character despite being in beast form.
I like how Qiu Yi uses the map to plan his route carefully, avoiding red dots. But it also makes the story a bit too easy: he always knows where danger is. I hope there are monsters or events that don't show up on the map to add unpredictability.
1 The idea of a “personal terminal” being embedded in contact lenses is such a neat little sci-fi detail. It’s not a big deal, but it really grounds the story in a futuristic reality without being flashy. Small touches like that make the high-tech world feel lived-in, compared to the fantasy world which feels coarse and rough. The author pays great attention to the sensory details of each setting.
I was honestly surprised by how quickly the story jumped into action. The opening with the raiders felt really tense, and they didn’t waste any time getting into the shield wall fight.
