The “don’t open the door” warning is clearly foreshadowing a major plot event. It’s a Chekhov’s gun that everyone can see, but the tension comes from wondering when and how it’ll be triggered. Will Shi Lan open it by accident? Under pressure? Out of kindness? I’ve already got multiple theories, and I’m excited to see which one plays out.
The world-building with Ghost Gate and the point system feels familiar to anyone who's read game system novels, but the addition of readers' thoughts as a power source is fresh. The global clearance speed ranking being number one is a fun twist—it sets up the MC as an unknown powerhouse. I'm curious how he'll navigate the politics now that he's on the radar.
The presence of a stone person is cool. Obades barely speaks, but his actions show personality – like when he punches Chicheng for saying Lu Cang is a burden. That's a nice way to show that the non-verbal character cares. I want to see more of him. Also, the fact that he's a "defender" (tank) in a classic D&D party is a nice touch. The team composition is standard but works. The author doesn't overexplain, just trusts the readers to know archetypes.
I called it the second the mission briefing mentioned the victims were all young women. 0398 was obviously the bait. The story doesn’t even try to hide it from the reader, which makes it even more tense watching her realize it herself. Her immediate escape attempt was a great character move, even if it failed.
The scene where Xing Xing peels the egg perfectly and gives it to Granny Wei? Yeah, that got me. The little girl’s careful hands and her anxious explanation that her hands aren’t dirty—it’s such a tiny gesture but says so much about her character. She’s already trying to earn her keep.
Yin Xuan seems like the stoic, responsible type. He finds her wandering around, doesn’t yell, just brings her home. But he’s so cold—like, no warmth at all. I can’t tell if he’s secretly nice or just doesn’t care enough to be mean. The way he just walks ahead and makes her jog to keep up? That’s petty king energy. I’m watching him.
