One final thought: the title (if any) might reveal more about the focus. But from this excerpt, it feels like the start of a long web novel. There are many cliches, but they are executed with energy. If you like stories like “The KING’s Avatar” or “Rebirth of the Urban Immortal Cultivator,” you might enjoy this. I’d give it a tentative thumbs up for a mindless read.
Ning Xuan's conversations with Jiu Jiu are a highlight. The system complaining about being called "Jiu Jiu" and being mocked by other systems adds humor. It breaks the tension without feeling tonally inconsistent. I wish all systems had this much personality.
I noticed other countries’ players came fully loaded with AKs and Thompsons, while Ye Feng started with nothing but his appetite. That creates a nice contrast. The Beautiful Country player is like a typical Rambo with full gear, but Ye Feng is turning his own body into a weapon. It’s David vs Goliath but Ye Feng’s Goliath is his stomach. Makes me wonder if guns will become obsolete once he evolves enough. I kinda hope he eats the other players’ weapons too.
The mental illness angle for Ronnie is handled interestingly. He’s not sad or angry about being an orphan he just doesn’t care. The Heartless talent making his emotional apathy a superpower instead of a flaw is a neat twist. But I wonder if this will make it hard for readers to connect with him emotionally. If he doesn't feel things why should we care about his struggles?
