Overall, I’m really enjoying my time with this story. The protagonist is sharp, the world is vivid, and the premise feels fresh even within a well-trodden genre. I’m invested in seeing Lin Du survive, collect her pills, and maybe find some genuine connections along the way. The tone is playful but has enough weight to keep me engaged. Definitely planning to keep reading.
The rules are interesting, especially the one about no rule 11 just to make it sound better. Such a small detail from the system makes it feel more quirky.
Overall, this is a promising start. It has a compelling protagonist with a modern voice, a mysterious plot with clear stakes, and an atmospheric setting. The weaknesses are some pacing issues, occasional awkward translations, and a few tropes that could go south if not handled carefully. But I'm definitely hooked. I want to know why the red-robed woman wants him, who the dying man is, and what's up with the sword. Count me in for the next chapters.
The line about him tearing off his stitches and not even leaving a scar was a bit much. I know cultivation heals fast, but completely perfect skin after a head wound that had a tube and stitches? Maybe let it heal naturally for a bit? Made the injury seem pointless.
I love how the MC's internal voice uses modern internet slang and references like "Erkang hand.jpg" in a historical setting. It shouldn't work but it absolutely does. It makes her feel like a real person who got transported into this world rather than someone who was born there. The contrast between her modern thoughts and the ancient palace decorum is comedic gold.
The 'slap' Gu Yanzhi orders for Rong Wanqing felt so hollow. It was a satisfying *bang* for sure, but Shen Weiyang's cold observation of it deflates the whole thing. It's not about justice for her; it's about Gu Yanzhi reasserting control over a situation that has spun out. The fact that he does it in front of her feels almost cruel, like forcing her to watch a show of his 'power.' It does nothing for her grief. 1
