The manager gave her 5000 yuan as a bonus for catching the grave robbers. That's a nice little windfall for her. And he's letting her stay at the funeral home. It's good to see her hard work pay off. I hope she saves up enough for school. It's a small detail but it makes me root for her financial success as much as her ghost-busting.
The mother Dai Jia Shi is subtle but powerful. Her picking the name “Xi Lin” and the father immediately understanding the deeper meaning shows their bond. The line about using morning light to warm jade and a tenacious heart to resist a frail body is beautiful writing. It adds depth to the characters’ love for their daughter.
The pacing of the first chapter is fast but not rushed. We get the setup, the theft, the fusion, and the aftermath within a few pages. That keeps the energy high. I read through it wanting to know what happens next.
I hate Ye Zihuan. He’s such a spoiled brat. Calling his legal mother a “bitch”? At seven years old? Clearly the father and grandmother have been feeding him lies. The way he says she “broke up his biological parents” makes me think he thinks Xiao Qing is the mistress, not the other woman.
