Cai Shuqin is so obviously the villain from the first moment she speaks. Always playing the "poor me" card, pretending to care about Xu Yuan while trying to make her look bad to her mother. Her whole act about the hangover soup and the sleeping medicine? Sketchy. I can't believe Xu Yuan didn't see through her in the previous life. But now she's awake, and I'm loving how she's already countering her moves.
Tang Xu's home life is a mess. Her stepsister Song Yuqiao is so immature, throwing tantrums. The stepmom Qin Yun is conflicted. You can see Tang Xu is isolated. The slap was surprising but didn't really resolve anything. Makes me feel for her.
The fight scenes are pretty bare-bones: swing barbell, smash stone, done. No choreography or tension. But for this kind of story, it’s enough. I’m more here for the revenge buildup and the weird zombie-girl dynamic than for combat detail. So it doesn’t bother me much.
Overall, this is a charming read with a great balance of humor and heart. The characters are memorable, the premise is unique, and the execution is crisp. I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone who likes wholesome supernatural comedies with a dash of existential dread.
